Learning about insects? Add this fun activity to your lesson by helping your kids to design their own insect!
Recently in our homeschool we had an insect unit that was REALLY fun! I took the kids outside to search for insects and we watched insect videos.
Then, we learned all the parts of an insect and made our own!
These Design-An-Insect printables make it so easy for little kids to see and assemble the parts of their own insect. Here are the parts of an insect you need to design your own:
Basic Parts of An Insect
- Head
- Thorax
- Abdomen
- 6 legs (Attached to the thorax)
- Wings (Attached to the thorax)
- Antennae (Attached to the head)
This coloring & gluing activity is super easy and fun. Let me show you how it is done.
Download The Design-An-Insect Printable
Click the image or the link below to download your printable. It is a 4 page PDF.
Print out your pages.
Then, have your kids color all the pieces they think they might use.
Now, have your kids (or you) cut out all the pieces they colored in.
Then, arrange them on the first page and glue them where you want them to go.
Make sure to draw whatever kind of legs you want, long, short, fuzzy, skinny. And you can also add eyes!
Then your kids can label the parts, or color the background how they like.
My preschooler named her insects “Cutie” and “Strongy”.
That’s all there is to it! You can use the extra pieces on the back, or print multiple page 1’s but have the kids share the rest of the parts.
I would LOVE it if you emailed me a picture of how your insects turned out so I can add them to this post and show them off to my other readers!
Enjoy these and have fun coloring and designing an insect!
